The fifth edition of the National Youth Games entered Day three with defending champions, Team Delta maintaining the leadership on the medals table after adding four gold medals to its medals haul.
Team Delta began the from where it stopped yesterday’s after picking gold in the female 50 metres butterfly event in swimming through Flora Obi with Emmanuel Aniretuoritse picking gold in the boys 301 Darts event with Delta also winning gold in the girls 301 event. Oluku Emmanuel also picked gold in the boys k1 200 canoeing event with Alex Sera winning bronze in the girls category.
Team Delta also made sure that it got into tjr medals range in the male handball event after beating Akwa Ibom 28-19 to advance to the semifinals of the boys hockey event.
Their female counterpart dumped out Ekiti State 15-4. The defending champions also cruised past Abia State in the boys hockey event 3-0 just as the girls brushed aside Bauchi State 2-0.
Team Delta also overcame Gombe 2-0 in the boys football event but their female counterpart lost 1-0 in the final to Lagos.
The Boyd team will be looking to get into the medal range when they face their opponents tomorrow. Team Delta now have eleven gold medals while second placed Team Lagos had six gold medals.
TeamDelta was however denied victory in the female forty four kilogram boxing event after the judges declared Idowu Mitsura of Gombe winner despite being beaten by Ruth Patrick of Delta.
The decision led to the judges being booed by spectators who could not fathom the rational behind the decision.
